8 Reasons Why You Should Consider an Ergonomic Chair (INFOGRAPHIC)

Is ergonomic office furniture worth it? Only if you’re looking for happier, healthier and more productive employees
I’m going to spare you the big numbers.
Let’s just say that workplace-related injuries cost U.S. companies billions of dollars in workers’ compensation and millions of days of lost labor.
That’s a lot of zeroes.
Instead of rattling off a list of daunting, and let’s face it, hard-to-process statistics about the 158 million people working in America, I’d like to focus on one human being at a time.
Think of an individual at your company.
It should be a person who spends a lot of time in front of a screen doing high-focus work. Someone who spends most of their day sitting.
Now think about their chair.
Is it old? New? Was it cheap? Expensive?
Is it something that has been handed down through generations of former employees? Or was it selected, configured and purchased specifically for the person currently using it?
Now think about that person’s back.
Sitting all day puts pressure on the muscles and discs of their spine. Slouching causes their spinal ligaments to stretch. Parking themselves in a chair for eight straight hours a day is actually speeding up the wear and tear of their spinal discs. Any daily soreness and stiffness they feel is their back warning them of bigger problems to come.
Unless they have a chair that is designed to help them more than hurt them.
That’s where ergonomics comes in.
Simply put, ergonomics is the study of how the human body interacts with things in the real world. The ultimate goal of ergonomic office furniture is to create a professional environment that makes people happier, healthier and more productive.
As far as I’m concerned, ergonomic options are a must-have for any modern office.
If you’re thinking of improving your space, it can be overwhelming trying to figure out where and how to begin. My advice? Start with the people. Give them the best tools to do their job.
Think of the person who came to mind earlier. Do you want to make them happier, healthier and as much as 17% more productive?
For my money, there is no more vital piece of office equipment than a well-designed, well-built ergonomic task chair.
